Tradition also states that the young Domenikos Theotokopoulos apprenticed at the Monastery of Vrontisiou before leaving Crete and remaining in the history of art as one of the greatest painters named El Greco.

The frescoes that have been saved in the katholikon are from the 14th century. The artistic entity of Vrontisi is proved by the amazing technique of a relief fountain of the 15th century that is preserved in the outer courtyard with a representation of the Protoplasts.
